Early Childhood Screening

Minnesota Law requires an early childhood screening for all children before entering kindergarten. The screening is offered free of charge through the Duluth Public Schools for any child age 3 1/2 to 5 years of age. (The optimal age for screening is around the child's fourth birthday). Screening is required in the following areas:
¨ Sensory Screening (vision and hearing screening)
¨ Developmental Screening (standardized screening of fine and gross motor, concept, and speech and language development)
¨ Growth Screening (height and weight measurement)
¨ Immunization review
¨ Summary interview with the parent
